See the Difference

Same hardwood, refinished.

Drag the handle. Worn, scratched, sun-faded hardwood usually doesn’t need replacing — sanding it down and re-coating brings decades-old floors back to better than new, for a fraction of the cost.

How It's Installed

Five steps, and none of them get skipped.

Fast doesn’t mean rushed. Every step below exists because skipping it is what turns a floor that lasts decades into one that fails, gaps, or squeaks in a couple of years.

  1. In-home measure & itemized quote

We measure every room, look at the subfloor and what's coming out, and help you match the right material to how each space is used. You get an itemized price before any work begins.

  2. Tear-out & haul-away

Old flooring, tack strip, and staples come up and out. We check the subfloor underneath as it's exposed — this is where hidden water damage and soft spots turn up.

  3. Subfloor prep & moisture check

Low spots get leveled, high spots ground down, loose panels re-secured, and squeaks fixed. Wood and laminate go over a moisture-checked, flat subfloor — never a wavy one.

  4. Acclimation & precise install

Wood and laminate acclimate to your home's humidity first, then everything is installed with proper expansion gaps, tight seams, and layout planned so full planks land where they show.

  5. Trim, transitions & clean-up

Shoe molding, transitions, and thresholds finish the edges; we vacuum, wipe down, and walk the job with you. For site-finished hardwood, that includes sanding, staining, and coating.

Why It Lasts

A floor is only as good as the subfloor underneath it.

The subfloor is what lasts
Most flooring failures — gaps, squeaks, hollow spots, cracked grout, planks that click apart — trace back to the subfloor, not the product. A floor installed over a flat, dry, sound base holds up dramatically longer than one laid over a wavy or damp one.
The right floor for the room
Waterproof luxury vinyl for kitchens and busy family spaces, tile for wet rooms, hardwood where you want warmth and resale value, carpet where you want it soft and quiet. We spec by how each room actually gets used, not by what's easiest to sell.
Refinishable, not just replaceable
Solid hardwood is unique: when it wears or you want a new color, it can be sanded and refinished instead of torn out — several times over its life. It's a big reason real wood holds its value long after other floors would need replacing.

Straight Answers

The questions every homeowner asks us

Cost, hardwood vs. vinyl, refinish or replace, what holds up to kids and pets — asked on nearly every in-home estimate we run. Here are the honest answers.

Read All FAQs

How much does new flooring cost in the Raleigh area?

It depends far more on the material than on the room. Installed, carpet and laminate are usually the most affordable per square foot, luxury vinyl plank sits in the middle, and solid hardwood and tile are typically the most expensive because both the material and the labor cost more. The other big cost drivers are how much prep the subfloor needs, whether old flooring has to be torn out and hauled away, and stairs or intricate layouts that slow installation down. Any quote worth considering is itemized and given after someone has measured the space in person — be skeptical of a firm per-square-foot price quoted sight unseen.

Is there a minimum project size?

Yes — we take on flooring projects of 350 square feet and larger, which is roughly two average-sized rooms. Setting a minimum lets us bring the right crew and materials to every job and deliver the quality — and the on-time, on-budget guarantee — our work is known for. If you're not sure whether your project qualifies, just ask when you reach out and we'll let you know.

What's the best flooring for homes with kids and pets?

For most busy households the answer is waterproof luxury vinyl plank (LVP). It shrugs off scratches from dog nails, wipes clean, and — unlike hardwood or laminate — a pet accident or a spilled water bowl won't damage it because the plank itself is waterproof. Tile is even more bulletproof and a great fit for entries and mudrooms, though it's harder and colder underfoot. Hardwood is still doable with pets if you choose a harder species like oak or hickory and a tough finish, but it will show wear sooner than LVP. We walk through the trade-offs based on which rooms and which animals.

Should I refinish my hardwood floors or replace them?

If the boards are solid hardwood and structurally sound, refinishing is almost always the better value — sanding down and re-coating costs a fraction of a full tear-out and replacement, and it can make decades-old floors look new. Solid hardwood can typically be sanded several times over its life. Replacement makes more sense when the wood is engineered with a thin wear layer that's already been sanded, when there's widespread water damage, cupping, or subfloor rot, or when you simply want a different material. A quick look at the boards and the wear layer tells us which way to point you.

What's the difference between luxury vinyl plank, laminate, and hardwood?

Hardwood is real wood — the most premium look, it can be refinished many times and adds the most resale value, but it's the priciest and can be damaged by standing water. Laminate is a photographic wood image over a dense fiberboard core with a tough wear layer: it looks like wood and resists scratches for less money, but its fiberboard core swells if it gets soaked and it can't be refinished. Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is a fully synthetic, 100% waterproof plank that has become the most popular choice for its balance of realistic looks, durability, comfort underfoot, and price. The right pick comes down to budget, the room's moisture, and whether you want the real-wood look and resale of hardwood.

How long does a flooring installation take?

For an average home, most single-material jobs run one to three days on site. Luxury vinyl, laminate, and carpet go quickest; hardwood takes longer, especially site-finished hardwood that has to be sanded, stained, and coated with dry time between coats; and tile spans several days because mortar and grout have to cure. Whole-house projects and anything needing significant subfloor repair or old-floor demolition add time. You'll get a realistic day count with your quote, based on the actual square footage and how much prep the subfloor needs.

Why does the subfloor matter so much?

Because almost every flooring failure traces back to what's underneath. A floor is only as flat and stable as the subfloor it sits on: dips and humps telegraph through vinyl and laminate and cause planks to flex, click apart, or wear unevenly, and they cause hollow spots and cracked grout under tile. Good practice is to check the subfloor for flatness, moisture, and squeaks, then level low spots, sand or grind high spots, re-secure loose panels, and repair any water damage before a single plank goes down. It's the unglamorous step that determines whether the finished floor is quiet, flat, and long-lasting.

How long will each type of floor last?

Solid hardwood lasts the longest by far — properly maintained and refinished every so often, it can last the life of the house. Tile is similarly long-lived when it's set over a sound base. Quality luxury vinyl plank commonly carries long residential wear warranties and holds up for many years under normal use. Laminate typically lasts a good while but can't be refinished, so it's replaced rather than restored when it wears. Carpet has the shortest life of the group and is usually replaced on a cycle. Actual lifespan always depends on product quality, installation, and how hard the space is used.
